"The Robin and the Fox"

Toronto, ON, 2019

A public art proposal for a competition by Legacy Art Project, honouring Terry Fox.

"The Robin and The Fox will consist of a painted bronze statue of an American robin (Turdus migratorius) perched on top of a pink granite boulder. Located nearby will be a life-size sculpture of a red fox (Vulpes vulpes) also made of bronze. These two sculptures will sit beneath a copse of hawthorn trees surrounded by large pink granite boulders. The proposed work is inspired by Canadian athlete, humanitarian and cancer research activist Terry Fox. Terry Fox had a mission. He wanted to raise money for cancer research, but more importantly he wanted to give us hope.

‘Hope’ is the thing with feathers’, begins one of the best know poems of author Emily Dickinson. Dickinson likens hope to a feathered bird that is permanently perched in the soul of every human. There it sings, never stopping in its quest to inspire." Myfanwy Macloed
